A Made-to-Order piece begins with an existing O Tsukiyo design. You choose the cloth, and I tailor the piece to your preferences. This option is ideal if you’d like something personalised but within my established silhouettes. A Commission is a more collaborative process. We begin with your idea — a concept, purpose, or feeling you’d like the piece to hold — and shape the design from the ground up. This offers greater creative flexibility and often involves deeper consultation, cloth curation, and development time. Both honour the character of the cloth; the difference lies in how much we design together.

Every commissioned piece begins with a conversation about the style you’re looking for, how it will be used, and what cloth feels right for you. Together, we explore suitable options from my Cloth Archive (https://www.otsukiyo.co/clotharchive)or, if you already have a kimono you’d like to transform, we discuss whether it’s suitable for upcycling. Once the design is confirmed, your piece moves into the making stage.

Timelines vary depending on the type of work: • Made-to-Order Most Made-to-Order pieces are completed within 2–4 weeks, depending on the fabric and any small personalisations. • Commissions Commissions involve a deeper design process, cloth selection, and consultation. These typically require 4–6 weeks, though this can vary based on complexity. Larger or multi-piece commissions may require additional time. If you’re hoping for a specific delivery date, I recommend contacting me before placing your order so I can confirm the best timeline for you.

Yes. If you have a vision in mind, I’m happy to curate cloth options from my Cloth Archive that align with your preferred palette, motif, or theme. If the archive doesn’t currently hold what you’re looking for — and you have something specific in mind — I’m happy to see what I can source locally here in Japan. Please note that availability varies, so while I’ll do my best, I can’t guarantee that a particular cloth or motif can be found. Yes. If you have a piece you love, I can recreate something similar using available archived kimono or obi cloth. Each piece will still be unique due to the one-of-a-kind nature of the textiles. If you’re commissioning a garment, I recommend sending a well-fitting reference piece. This allows me to tailor proportions more accurately, as I do not offer fittings. Your reference item is used only for sizing guidance — your final piece will always be a unique O Tsukiyo design.
